Native to southern India, Pinanga dicksonii is a clumping species to about 5m/16' tall with slender, green, ringed stems and yellow crownshaft. The bright green feather leaves are fairly evenly pinnate, with the moderately broad leaflets held in a fairly flat arrangement. Though this is one of the most cold hardy species of the genus, it still requires a frost free climate, but will grow outside of the tropics in some warm temperate areas. It will look at it's best in a lightly shaded area with plenty of water and a fast draining soil. Pinanga dicksonii, can adapt to pot culture and requires less humidity than many of the genus. This and it's relatively small size make it a good contender for use indoors in cooler climates, although some measures to increase humidity would be rewarded with a much better looking plant. Indoors it will require bright, indirect light, near a south to west facing window or alternatively a slightly shaded area in a conservatory would be ideal. Although it will eventually outgrow most indoor environments, the larger stems can be removed, allowing the shorter stems to take their place and new suckers to form.
