Ananas comosus

Common name: Pineapple.

A member of the Bromeliad family probably originating from Brazil or maybe Paraguay. The plant grows to 1-1.5m (3-5') tall with 30 or more leaves 30-100cm (1-3') long. Now widespread in cultivation for it's popular fruit, the plant is tropical in it's requirements and prefers a bright, sunny location. Becoming fairly popular as a houseplant due to it's ease of cultivation from a left over pineapple top, but it must be kept warm and in a well lit area.
