Heterospathe scitula

A dwarf species to 2m (7') height. Originating from Luzon, an island of The Philippines, this clustering species has thin stems with a small crown of finely pinnate leaves. As an understorey palm, this species prefers a shady location in the tropics, but it's small size and low light requirements make it a good choice to try as a houseplant. To add to it's ornamental appeal, it has a nice, bronze coloured emergent leaf that can last up to a couple of weeks before fading to the normal green colour.
