Common Name: Candy Cane Palm
From Madagascan rainforest a small clumping palm to 3m/10' tall. Leaves are variable, usually entire, sometimes sparsely pinnate. Forms a very attractive red/purple crownshaft, making it one of the more attractive understorey palms. As with most palms, it prefers a moist, well draining soil. Fairly new to cultivation, there is little information about cold hardiness, although it is not expected to be particularly cold tolerant. Being an understorey palm it will grow happily in partial shade and can make a good indoor plant, given sufficient humidity.
