Licuala triphylla

Licuala triphylla is a dwarf species from the rainforests of Peninsular Malaysia. With a subterranean stem, this species stays very small and is ideal for pot culture. The sparsely divided fan leaves can resemble pinnate leaves, due to their unusual division. This species, like similar, small Licualas can produce suckers, although it is usually a reaction to stress. As an understorey palm, it is best kept in a shaded area and should do well in reasonably well lit positions indoors. Still somewhat rare in cultivation, it's tropical requirements can be off putting, but with the provision of ample humidity this palm shouldn't be out of reach for those wanting to diversify their indoor collections.
